Pisces is the mutable water sign. The symbol for Pisces is the fish. Its horoscope glyph depicts depicts a pair of fish swimming in opposite directions, connected by a chord.

Like the other water signs of Cancer and Scorpio, Pisces is feeling-oriented in its approach to life. But being a mutable sign, these feelings are not as direct as the cardinal sign Cancer or as controlled as the fixed sign Scorpio.

The Piscean feeling is much more expansive and wild, like an ocean, and they tend to share their feelings with others very freely. Pisceans are uncanny at sensing other people’s emotions and are very receptive to non-verbal messages in their environment.

This makes Pisceans quite empathetic, because they are able to identify with other people’s feelings exceedingly well. And it makes them especially good at giving emotional advice.

This expansiveness of feeling makes for a very porous emotional boundary between Pisceans and the world around them. Which makes Pisceans extremely sensitive to psychic forces in their environment.

Functioning in the material world with all the stuff that goes on in it, the chaos and the noise and the friction, affects Pisceans more than others. It is a big drain on their energy. In order to recharge and rejuvenate, they need to periodically retreat from the so-called real world, to a place of quiet and peace.

By the same token, since Pisceans are extremely receptive to communication that is beyond the usual senses, they have a special antenna for extra-sensory perception. If this ESP can be tuned correctly, with care and discipline, Pisceans can be constructive psychics. Pisces is highly imaginative and extremely impressionable.

Being pulled by strong emotional currents, Pisceans can easily get carried away by them. If they don’t find a strong anchor in the material world, they could become a victim of circumstance.

On the other hand, perhaps sensing their own vulnerability so keenly, Pisceans are drawn to victims of all kinds–orphaned children, battered women, shelter dogs, sick people–who they will try to rescue, or save, or whose circumstance they will try to improve in some way.

Pisceans have a talent for both being in this world, and not of it, and if they can find the right balance between these, they can have the best of both worlds.
